I’ve been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 2007. I’ve worked with a wide range of individuals; people suffering from severe chronic mental health disabilities, children and families, and adults seeking to bring positive change to their lives. These experiences have given a host of tools to address your mental health needs and help you make positive change.
My name is Courtney Kadish-Smith and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have worked in both mental health and addiction throughout my career. I have a passion for therapy and at the end of the day I am aware this is not an easy thing to commit too. Exploring into ourselves and working to get better is something that takes courage. I applaud you for reaching out in the first place and now we can take the step together towards making your life better.
If there is one common human emotion, it is a feeling that we are doing the best we can, with the options we see as available to us. We like to feel we always make our best decisions.
Throughout my career, I have had the honor of working with people at all levels of life. Many who are seeking change, and some who have been forced to talk with a therapist. All of whom are, on some level, scared of the change they are seeking.
Whatever brings you here, I offer warmth and compassion.
It takes a tremendous amount of courage to reach out to a therapist for help with life's difficult challenges, and to find hope in the midst of struggle. It is my joy as a therapist, and as a human being, to help individuals find that hope within themselves. I have many years of experience helping individuals of all ages with anxiety, depression, relationship and communication issues, anger management, PTSD, childhood trauma, ADHD, substance use and grief and loss. I especially enjoy working with young people trying to navigate these challenges. I also work with couples and older adults. Grief and loss is an area of expertise.
Born and raised in WNY, attended SUNY Buffalo, obtaining my bachelor's in psychology and master's in Social Work there.
I enjoy working with people of all ages who are striving to move through and process the difficult life experiences, changes and transitions we all experience such as grief & loss, divorce, trauma, addictions of all kinds, parenting and behavioral problems in children and adolescents.
If you’re feeling stuck in anxiety, depression, trauma, school stress, or family conflict, therapy can be a place to feel understood and start making meaningful change. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, and I support clients in building coping skills, improving confidence, and finding practical ways to manage everyday challenges.
I came to therapy from teaching, and that background shapes how I show up: I'm used to adapting to who's in front of me, reading what's unsaid, and finding an approach that actually fits the person — not just the presenting concern.
I work with adolescents and adults on trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic, maternal mental health, grief, and family stress. EMDR is a core part of my practice — particularly for clients whose past experiences still affect how they feel and function today, even when they'd rather they didn't.
I keep a small, intentional caseload. If you'd like to see if we're a good fit, I offer a free phone consultation before we commit to anything.
